Interviewing |
| I was excited and nervous about the interview and although the
National Park Service. Even though the National Park Service does
not have a dress code for employees I wanted to show that I was
serious about the internship so I dressed in a nice shirt and tie.
Dr. Frysinger described the internhip offered by the Synthesis Regional
Support Center of the National Park Service. This center will serve
as a technical support center for the spatial relational database
program Synthesis. The staff will be required to be familiar with
the program and be able to give support to parks who are partipicating
in the program. Dr. Frysinger compared the support centers functions
to those of a help desk. Since this was a new program only a few
parks will be supported, but more parks are anticipated to get involved
in the future. The center is also expecting more information to
be tracked in the future. This will lead to the necessity of a Management
Information System. This system will handle all the information
about support center staff and customers. After describing this
to me he then asked me what skills I had that I could bring to this
project. I told him that my work experience included working with
teams and problem solving. This is where my class experience and
outside work helped. I had taken CS 274 Intro to Databases, CS345
software engineering, and several classes which involved programming.
I described that in my CS345 software engineering that we worked
in groups to design and implement a resturant inventory software
application. Since the internship involved working with a team and
software producation this class experience would be helpful to the
Synthesis support center. Dr. Frysinger stated that the information
that will be tracked should be stored in a database. Describing
my understanding of tables, keys, and queries I was able to persuade
Dr. Frysinger that I had enough skills to be a part of the Synthesis
Regional Support Center Staff. |
