Section 3.0 - Daily Log Excerpts
This excerpt comes from the beginning of my log. It is the last day of the
first week:
“Today I spent most of the day working on getting all my security access
forms in order. I have learned that in a corporate environment things do not
just happen. If you need access to a particular server then you must apply
for it, give a valid reason. Then you must wait for clearance.”
At first this seemed strange to me because I only had a short time at the
company, and I wanted to work on as many projects as possible before my time
was up. These procedures for getting access to the resources I needed to do
my work concerned me at first, but I later realized this is how it must be
done to reduce security risks.
The next excerpt is from the middle portion of my internship. I had just finished
one project and was starting on a new one that required input from the business
area users:
“Today was a busy day setting up and attending meetings with the business
area. Today was my first UAT (user agreement testing). This is done to clear
the code I wrote to go into production. The users were happy with the fix,
and they have cleared it for promotion to production. I also attended meetings
with other members of the business area to gather information about the next
fix I have to complete. I was unclear on how the users actually go about getting
the information about particular loans from the application. After the meeting,
I had a much better understanding of the application and its use. I can now
start coding the fix. From what I gather from other employees, the business
area, although demanding at times, is overall a helpful bunch and is always
open to questions.”
It was exciting to get my code into production, which means it will now be
a permanent part of the application and used throughout the company.
