Section 1.3
After delivering my resume to FLT and having a brief talk with my former boss
(who helped land me this opportunity), I was contacted and asked to come in for
a formal interview with the head of the Interactive Media Department, as I
expressed my interest in that opening rather than the straight programming
position. The formal interview consisted of a brief interview, where I was
asked about what I feel are my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to
programming. One piece of advice I have to offer is to be yourself. Let your
possible employers know how you are and let them get to know you, not a
"one-time persona" that they'll only see during formal times. Afterwards, they
wanted to test my ability to critique one of their projects from a programmer's
perspective, rather than from a marketing perspective. I was given a Flash
animation movie, with some ActionScript code embedded, and asked to scan over
the movie and see what could be changed; what was good and bad about how the
movie was structured, as well as how code could be used to make the movie more
efficient. They gave me a week with the project, and called me back the
following week to discuss my ideas. Upon explaining to them how I felt about
the project, how it could be improved, and where some possible mistake existed,
they choose to offer me the internship.
