Section 5.0
Overall, I'd say the internship experience, for me,
was one of the best experiences I could have had. I experienced the ups and the
downs, the good and the bad, and it made me realize what the real work world can
be like. As a student, it showed me what areas I have a good understanding of,
and which ones could use some improvement. I don't think many people realize,
including myself, how different a full-time job can be from a part-time or summer
job. You learn responsibility very quickly, and you are forced to make your own
decisions that can affect your day, week or even month.
Another big benefit to anyone doing an internship,
not just myself, is the connections you make. Not only do you have a chance to
possibly come back and work for the company after graduation (assuming the internship
went well, of course), but you could also meet plenty of important people that
could very well assist you in your trip into the work force. In my situation, my
supervisor/mentor expressed interest not only in my possibly doing some freelance
work for them during the fall, but also to potentially have a full-time job after
graduation. That, I believe, is the single most beneficial point for doing an
internship. One could prepare you for the future, assuming you do well.
