INTERNSHIP VALUE

AOL is a great opportunity for any intern because the program is so diverse and helpful to the development and preparation of the students.  Because the company is so large, many jobs are available in many different fields from operations, quality assurance, development, web design, business, and many more.  AOL treats the interns exceptionally well because through the history of AOL, interns have made a huge impact on the company.  Many interns from the beginning of AOL are now vice presidents or executives according to the Vice President, Ted Leonsis.  AOL also sponsored intern events from day trips and picnics to speaker events and resume clinics.  All of the interns took chartered buses from AOL headquarters to Baltimore for and Orioles game, which was free to the interns, plus we were paid for the day.  The fun events they planned really gave us a positive view of the company because it represented what AOL employee experience year round.  The most valuable intern events were the speakers they planned for us throughout the summer.  CEO, Jon Miller, Vice President, Ted Leonsis, and Vice President of AOL Broadband, Carlos Silvia, all spoke to us, which proved to be valuable because they gave great advice for our futures and insight to the steps of their success.  I was glad they spoke to us because that is the type of experience one can only get from one’s job.  Almost as valuable was the resume clinic held by AOL Human Resources. The HR employees look through thousands of resumes, so they provided insight on the important features and formatting of a resume. All of the intern events were very informative, fun, and a valuable learning experience.

However, I also had a job to do at AOL, which provided me with invaluable experience.  This internship opened the door to a possible full time position with the company, plus the experience to prepare me for my future.  The office and work I did was related to my field of study, so I felt I received fantastic experience for my future here at AOL or in a different organization.  Overall, this internship went beyond my expectations.
