Section 1.1
Marketing Myself
From what I have learned over the years, I knew that creating a "pretty" resume was very key to attaining jobs. My experience in TSC210 contributed greatly to this knowledge, so to start off I when with a tried-and-true Microsoft Word template - I feel the "Contemporary" one looks great and hold all the information together nicely. After going through all the steps in the wizard, I was presented with a nice basic outline (which needed minor modification to include my school address), I now needed to add some content.
Having worked as a temporary employee for several years I already had a pretty nice resume put together, so I could simple cut&paste the information from it. Sadly, I had to cut out a lot of information from high school, there was a lot of good stuff on there but it had to go. Now that the information was ready to go it was time to clean things up.
Drawing on my experience in TSC210, and the textbook for the class, I knew that it was important to leave some white space, but also very important to get as much information on to the single piece of paper as possible. With lots of formatting, cutting, deleting, resizing, etc, I finally came up with a presentable document, all that was missing was my objective.
Objectives are funny things, while trying to make it as specific to the job that you're applying for you also want to make it broad enough to not exclude any other relevant jobs that the potential employer may be interested in awarding you. Since I was really looking to do anything, I kept mine very broad and used the "IT field" as my target. It should also be noted that you want to express interest in not only increasing your own skills, but you want to show them you are interested in being a benefit to the company. If you are looking for a specific job and do not want to consider other matches you should feel free to narrow down your "target."
