Internship Value

My internship with Freddie Mac was a great experience. I learned new technical skills by using Rational Rose, J2EE, and RapidSQL to reverse engineer the Settlement system. It was a very different experience from learning in the classroom because I relied on my previous knowledge to experiment rather than just listening to a professor. Although I enjoy learning new concepts in my classes, I welcomed this change of pace in my education. Since the fundamentals of programming are now second nature to me, testing and some guidance from other colleagues was all that I needed to learn new concepts.

I also interacted with other employees who were exceptional in many ways. There were numerous colleagues who I talked to at work that earned Master’s and M.B.A. degrees. I often commented on how intelligent my co-workers were as they easily explained advanced topics to me. By interacting with motivated people, I gained a better perspective of the work environment. I also learned that while college is a great time, life goes on afterwards as well. My experiences at Freddie Mac helped me grow both personally and professionally. I would recommend every mature rising college student to go through an internship to gain a new perspective.
