This morning I spent listening to Manuela Pauer, Executive Director of Product Strategy, on turning an idea into a product. It was an interesting presentation discussing how AOL comes up with ideas and introduces them to discussion groups where they decide which are the best or most feasible ideas and coming up with the documentation needed to present the idea to higher powers that make the decisions on what ideas will actually become products. After this I went back to my desk and work on documentation for AOL Wallet. After lunch I got an e-mail about a new security sign on for AOL Wallet, I ran a series of tests and found a bug in creating a new screen name from the sign on page. One of the developers came down and worked with me and we tried to figure out what the issue was. We found it was a database problem and after he went and corrected it from his machine, he dropped the updated version and it seemed to function properly.

Today I spent an hour being shown the structure of AOL Wallet and how the new system will be different from the old structure. For lunch we had Mike Cammon VP of Product Marketing discuss leadership development. I really enjoyed this presentation because it was very informal and he was more interested in what we wanted to know and what we had to say then to just present a bunch of information. He gave us some tips on what good management is about, but for the most part just answered questions that we had. In the afternoon I worked on the AOL Wallet International Test Plan with a coworker. We finished it up and began testing a few parts of the new system that had been completed. That evening everyone in AOL Quality Assurance was invited to Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (Air and Space Museum) where we had a dinner and several Quality Assurance VPs spoke. They hired Jerry Linenger, an Astronaut, as a motivational speaker to get everyone excited about this year at AOL. It was a great night and I was really excited about this summer internship after that.
