I acquired many facts, skills, and personal abilities through the completion of this internship. I was unaware on the amount of technical writing that I had to complete for this internship. I wrote many documents from product evaluations to network design diagrams. Though it wasn’t nearly exciting writing technical documents, they were necessary in order to complete my work. In the future, I will be better able to write correct and precise technical documentation because of this internship.

I also learned certain aspects about installing a Windows 2003 server that I didn’t know before this experience. The ability to scour the internet for the right information that I needed to configure the server correctly was important to my success. I had the opportunity to work with software that I never worked with before, such as, Microsoft Exchange server, Sharepoint Portal Server, and Microsoft Outlook coupled with an Exchange server.

Communication is a key aspect to any job. During my internship, I needed to convey the information that I collected to Carlos through written and vocal means. This required amount of communication allowed me to improve my communication skills. Communication is usually not a main component to any computer science class. This internship provided me the opportunity to learn this valuable skill.

In conclusion, my internship at Solari Innovations, Inc. was a very rewarding experience. It provided me with skills that supplemented my coursework at JMU and skills that were unique to a work environment. I would implore any student to get an internship and certainly an internship with Solari Innovations, Inc.
