My duties include assisting Carlos in the work that he was completing. I did this by doing research of certain security aspects that I presented to him and by designing and implementing his company’s computer network. The main research that I did was on Trust-Based Computing. Currently, when two entities want to communicate and share resources, they authenticate themselves and are given a set of permissions. These set of permissions are usually set by default or set by an administrator. The administrator is required to set and deny permissions. Trust-Based computing allows for permissions to be fluid. Under a set of circumstances an entity can have one set of permissions and under a different set of circumstances an entity can have a different set of permissions. The different levels of permissions are set dynamically according to how much the system "trusts" an entity. This provides a more secure and automated environment.
I was also in charge of designing and implementing the company’s internal network from the ground up. I had to research and purchase products that would allow me to build the network. First I had to complete a document that showed the needs of the company and how to fulfill those needs. After these needs were determined, I needed to find the products that would fulfill these needs. These are the products that I decided on: Windows 2003 Small Business Server, VMWare Workstation, Sharepoint Portal Server, and Dell PowerEdge 750 rack server with a RAID controller.
I worked an average of thirty hours a week. The pace of the work was mainly self-propelled. Due to the nature of the work Carlos does, he needs to be out of the office most of the time. So, I had the responsibility to create a pace of work that I thought was sufficient to complete the missions that Carlos instructed me to complete.
