Career Advice for Current CS Students:

Without question I would highly recommend to every computer science major that he or she find an internship at some point during their college career. My primary goal in finding an internship for myself was two-fold. I wanted to have real life work experience in the environment of a large company, and I also wanted to secure a reliable and respectable reference for future employment ventures. I feel that I met both of those goals through this internship. I believe that this would be a great opportunity for anyone interested in a career in the computer science field, and what is so exciting about this field is that there are many different types of jobs for which a computer science major is qualified. I personally was looking for something with potential for creativity as well as logic and problem solving, but I applied for all sorts of different jobs. Whether you are interested in a more research oriented position, or a laid back, fun environment, there are opportunities all over the place if you are willing to travel. My only practical advice is to apply early, and to look for as many different positions as possible. But what worked for me in particular was to focus on just a few of the positions that I am most interested in, and produce a resume that will catch their attention. Also, connections through family and/or friends are invaluable.
