Getting the Job
|
Internship Values This internship was very important in my education and career status. The reason it is so important is the experience. The experience is one more thing I can put on my resume. Also, now I am familiar with programming in UNIX and Windows environments, which is something that I didn’t have before. I didn’t think that I would like working in a windows development environment, I always thought that working with UNIX was so much better, but now after experiencing it, I’ve decided that I like working with windows more. Working 8am – 5pm, 40 hours a week was a change of pace from the usual part time jobs that I would have during the summer, so it gave me a taste of working in the real world. They also had team environments at Susquehanna Technologies, SusQtech, which I wasn’t familiar with since my experience was working by myself, so it was nice to see how everyone else works as well as how everyone else goes about doing something. This gave me room to improve my coding skills, or improve their applications if I felt that it could have been coded more efficiently. I know that since I worked hard to perform well for the company, that they will have a job offer waiting for me when I graduate. The internship let me evaluate the company and determine whether or not I liked them while working full time but I wouldn’t have to wait until after I graduated. I received the full corporate experience from SusQtech as the company was sold and purchased during the middle of the internship and some people were let go and some stayed. Being employed during the company change, I experienced being fired and rehired by different companies but in reality I had the same job. I also got to experience what the new company was like, and decided that I really like the company that I worked for all summer. Working with everyone at the company was amazing; everyone there was helpful and seemed to enjoy their job. I now know what to expect from a company in the future. Susquehanna Technologies may have set my standards really high and they may be the only ones that can fill those standards, I know that they will hear from me when I graduate. |
